In the frame of Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture, Veszprém and its entourage want to go beyond the deep-rooted bias and raise contemporary problems and questions relying on its rich history and complex heritage. Veszprém city has played a dominant role since the foundation of the state, Lake Balaton was a popular meeting point between West and East during socialism, and the global negative trend of rural depopulation unfortunately does not exclude this region – to name a few.

This large-scale project aims to build on the region's cultural wealth to create a new, sustainable, vibrant and organic network at the national and European level, surpassing seasonality.

The transformation of the Baroque annexe of the former Simoga House embodies these objectives and values, which Plydesign also celebrates and embraces. In addition, the region's fate is of particular concern to us, as the brand was born here in a factory that has been operating for more than 30 years at the foot of the Somló Hills. We see so many creative communities and businesses in the region that entail the power to use design to set completely fresh, forward-thinking cultural directions, building on centuries of tradition, heritage and knowledge.

That's why we're delighted that the BIGSee Wood Design Award earner biomorphic  SHELFORDII-PLY lamps by Nieto Light, iF DESIGN AWARD-winning FRIGATE chairs and sleek MOTHERSHIP tables can help convey these powerful messages in FOTON Audiovisual Centre's speciality café, starting a dialogue about the past, present and future, and about us as a community.
